An excellent location to take pictures during sunset! The most unique thing about Ürgüp is the trio of black-topped fairy chimneys, also called "the three beauties," that look out over the hills outside of town. Alternatively, to see the fairy chimneys from a lower vantage point, you may take a steep trail down into the valley from the boardwalk.
For a taste of the local wine, visit one of the many wineries in Cappadocia; the area's abundant sunshine and fertile volcanic soil produce excellent sweet grapes, carrying on the Ottoman Greek winemaking tradition. Give your taste buds a tease with either a free tasting of two smaller servings or a paid tasting of three larger portions.
To have a mystical yet adventurous experience surrounded by volcanic rocks, head to the underground cities of Mazi, which are 18 km from Urgup. They are known to be curved out by soft tuff rocks, which are connected by air corridors and narrow tunnels. Explore the many living quarters such as barns, living rooms, burial chambers, and food storage areas.
Straight out of a fantastical storybook and onto the barren Anatolian plains are some of the most breathtakingly stunning valleys in all of Cappadocia, between Göreme and Cavusin. The cliffs here have a pastel palette of pink, yellow, and orange, formed by volcanic eruptions across the landscape. With so many trails to choose from, it is a great time to lace up your walking shoes and explore the great outdoors on foot.
